When we’re young, everything is an adventure. New experiences are thrown at us left and right and we jump in with either gusto or trepidation, but regardless, we jump in. As we get older, this starts to change. We begin picking and choosing according to our tastes. Sometimes we stop trying new things altogether in favor of the familiar.
There is a saying, “When you’re green, you grow. When you’re red, you rot.” Put simply, stimulating your brain by consistently learning and trying new things keeps you growing and moving forward.
Here’s the thing, it can be scary to walk into unfamiliar territory. But we need to be OK with that uncomfortable feeling. The anxiety, fear, nervousness…it’s all normal and everyone feels it to some degree. But it is totally possible to acknowledge those feelings and still put yourself out there.
I work very hard at not getting too settled into a routine. Yes, there are things I have to do everyday like work and sleep and eat, but everything else is up for grabs. And it doesn’t have to cost you any money or a lot of time. We’re in a time where the internet offers a wealth of information on anything you can imagine.
So I challenge you to attempt something new today. Chances are there is something you’ve been wanting to learn or try but have been holding off. It could be anything from cooking a strange dish to learning yoga. But whatever it is, get out there and do it. You’ll be glad you did!
